 As Part of Environment Week Activities, Imam Mohammad Ibn Saud Islamic University Organizes the “Our Environment, Our Future” Event

      Represented by the Department of Sociology and Social Work at the College of Social Sciences, and in cooperation with the Deanship of Student Affairs, Imam Mohammad Ibn Saud Islamic University organized an awareness event last Wednesday, May 6, 2026, under the slogan “Our Environment, Our Future."


      The event, which was held in the main hall of the Deanship of Student Affairs, was inaugurated by the Dean of the College of Social Sciences, Dr. Faisal Al-Muhareb, in the presence of the Vice Dean of the College, Dr. Abdulhadi Al-Otaibi; the Head of the Department of Sociology and Social Work, Dr. Ibrahim Atiyah; along with several faculty members and students from the department.

 

      During the event, students from the Environmental Awareness Group delivered a visual presentation on the project “Developing Environmental Awareness Among Imam University Students," which was prepared as part of the course “Design and Evaluation of Social Programs" under the supervision of Dr. Nasser bin Saleh Al-Oud. The presentation highlighted the importance of promoting environmental awareness among university students and staff, while supporting practices related to preserving natural resources.

 

      The student project was based on recent statistics showing growing societal interest in environmental issues. The initiative indicated that 88% of Saudi families are concerned with environmental issues and rationalizing consumption, emphasizing the important role of the university environment in transforming this awareness into practical initiatives led by students.

 

     Attendees also reviewed several programs and initiatives, including the “My University is Green" afforestation program; the “My Environment is My Responsibility" initiative for rationalizing energy and water consumption; the “One Hour for Cleanliness" initiative inside and outside the university campus; as well as a plan for recycling paper waste, plastics, and batteries.

 

     The presentations also addressed the importance of cooperation with relevant national entities, including the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture and the National Center for Environmental Compliance, in ways that contribute to enhancing environmental sustainability and achieving a positive societal impact.

 

      In his speech during the opening ceremony, the Dean of the College, Dr. Al-Muhareb, emphasized the importance of strengthening environmental awareness within the university environment and supporting student initiatives that help instill positive environmental behaviors, while linking academic learning with practical application to achieve sustainability goals.
