Imam Mohammad Ibn Saud Islamic University achieved 11th place worldwide and 2nd locally among the top 100 universities globally in terms of U.S. utility patents for 2025, according to the report issued by the National Academy of Inventors. The university recorded 175 internationally registered patents within a single year, based on official data approved by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
This ranking is considered one of the most prominent international indicators for measuring the effectiveness of innovation ecosystems at universities worldwide. It reflects academic institutions' ability to transform research outputs into protected, applicable, and marketable technologies, thereby supporting the knowledge economy and promoting sustainable development.
This achievement comes in line with the support and directives of the University President, Prof. Ahmed S. Al-Ameri, and his commitment to strengthening the university's presence in patent registration and reinforcing its competitive standing locally and globally. The university affirms that this milestone represents a new phase—shifting from merely obtaining patents to maximizing their economic and technological value. It is actively enhancing its technology transfer ecosystem and accelerating the conversion of innovations into products, startups, and practical solutions with national and global impact. These efforts aim to strengthen the knowledge economy and generate financial returns from high-quality registered innovations. Through its current strategy, the university also seeks to support the knowledge economy, ensure sustainable financial returns from distinguished innovations, and further advance its research and innovation system in alignment with national development goals.
It is worth noting that the university is moving toward establishing an Innovation Zone to serve as an integrated incubator for university inventions and innovations. This initiative aims to enable their development, support prototyping, connect them with industrial partners and investors, and create a stimulating environment for transforming knowledge into sustainable economic value.
This strategic direction reflects Imam Mohammad Ibn Saud Islamic University's commitment to its pioneering role in building an integrated innovation ecosystem that enhances the Kingdom's global competitiveness and supports the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 toward a knowledge- and innovation-based economy.
