In line with the designation of 2026 as the Year of Artificial Intelligence, Imam Mohammad Ibn Saud Islamic University (IMSIU) will organize a scientific conference titled “Artificial Intelligence: Its Sharia Rulings and Intellectual Challenges” on September 29–30, 2026, with the participation of a distinguished group of scholars, researchers, and specialists in the fields of Sharia, technology, and intellectual studies.

The conference is organized as part of a scholarly initiative reflecting the University’s commitment to examining the Sharia and intellectual dimensions associated with artificial intelligence technologies, and keeping pace with the rapid transformations in this field in a manner consistent with the principles of Islamic Sharia, while reinforcing its role in guiding emerging technological developments.

On this occasion, H.E. Prof. Ahmed S. Alaameri, President of IMSIU, emphasized that organizing this conference embodies the University’s mission to highlight the universality of Islamic Sharia and its capacity to accommodate modern technological advancements, including artificial intelligence. He noted that the conference aims to provide a rigorous academic framework that integrates deep-rooted Sharia foundations with a contemporary understanding of technology, contributing to directing its applications toward serving the interests of individuals and society, while preserving values and identity.

H.E. also expressed his appreciation to H.E. Yousef A. Al-Benyan, Minister of Education, for approving the organization of the conference and for his continued support of the University’s academic and research initiatives.

He further added that, through this conference, the University seeks to strengthen the presence of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in addressing contemporary Sharia issues related to modern technologies, reflecting the wise leadership’s—may God preserve it—ongoing support for science and scholars, and reinforcing the Kingdom’s position in leading global academic dialogue on emerging technological developments.

For his part, Dr. Abdullah A. Al-Asmari, Vice President for Educational Affairs and Chair of the Organizing Committee, stated that the conference represents a specialized academic platform bringing together leading scholars, researchers, and experts in Sharia, technology, and intellectual fields. It aims to discuss the Sharia dimensions of artificial intelligence, explore its intellectual and societal impacts, and provide scholarly insights that contribute to regulating its use in accordance with Islamic Sharia principles.

The conference will address several key themes, including the position of Islamic Sharia and its ability to keep pace with contemporary developments; the study of Sharia rulings related to artificial intelligence and its applications; the role of Sharia guidelines in directing and regulating AI technologies; the relationship between artificial intelligence and intellectual security; and its role in enhancing intellectual resilience among youth, in addition to highlighting the Kingdom’s leadership in addressing contemporary Sharia issues related to modern technologies.

The organizing committee has set June 11, 2026, as the deadline for submitting research abstracts and researchers’ CVs, July 9, 2026, as the deadline for notifying applicants of the scientific committee’s decisions, and August 6, 2026, as the deadline for submitting final research papers.
