His Excellency the President of Imam Mohammad Ibn Saud Islamic University, Prof. Ahmad S. Al-Amri, sponsored the International Day of People with Special Needs event under the theme "United in Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals for People with Special Needs", which was organized by the Deanship of Student Affairs in the University lobby on Wednesday, 13 December 2023. The Vice President for Academic Affairs, Prof. Fahad S. Al-Luhaidan, inaugurated the accompanying exhibition and reviewed the participating entities from within and outside the university, as well as the most important services provided by these entities to people with special needs.
Dean of Student Affairs at the University, Dr. Abdulrahman M. Al-Kharashy, confirmed that this event aims to raise awareness of the importance of integrating people with special needs into social life, and to educate them and their families about all free advantages and services offered by the different entities that participated in the event; in order to improve their well-being.
The accompanying exhibition included a variety of activities, events, and awareness workshops; The activities showcased assistive technologies, that enhance the social integration of people with special needs, in addition to organizing discussion sessions on their employment, education and rights.
The exhibitions also included platforms for experimental presentations for innovators and start-ups in the field of assistive technologies, as the latest developments and innovations aimed at improving the lives of people with special needs and empowering them were displayed. In the context of solidarity and honoring achievements, a number of individuals and institutions were honored for their distinguished contributions to supporting people with special needs and achieving positive change in their lives.
This event is an opportunity for communication and cooperation between society and people with special needs, and it enhances awareness and understanding of the issues that encounter them. This event comes within the framework of ongoing efforts to achieve equality and social solidarity for all members of society, regardless of their physical or mental abilities.
The exhibition was attended by a large number of visitors, who praised the facilities provided by the university to people with special needs, in addition to the services provided by the relevant entities and participating in the event. A number of visitors also expressed their thanks for the university's efforts in mobilizing all possibilities and addressing the educational, psychological, and social challenges facing people with special needs and finding appropriate solutions to address them.
On the other hand, the participating entities appreciated the efforts made by the university in supporting people with special needs, and its distinguished initiatives in integrating them into the university community, and raising awareness of their educational, employment, and social rights.
