 Stem Cells Campaign Attracted Enormous Donors

​Faculty of Medicine, in collaboration with Saudi Stem Cell Donor Registry, has launched recently a five-day awareness campaign of donating stem cells entitled “Hope Cells” at the university deanship supporting building.

The campaign, which’s comes in line with the communal events and contributions of Faculty of Medicine, has devoting to all members of the university community, which would help in saving the lives of patients with incurable diseases, including Leukemia.

An accredited source from Saudi Stem Cell Donor Registry has clarified that, numbers of registered donors at their databases are exceeding more than 35000 all around the Kingdom. He furthered that, the donation is only a possibility in the event of tissue matching donor, and joining the Saudi Stem Cells Donor Registry requires taking a blood sample from which the genetic connective tissue will be extracted, and then registered in the Registry’s database.

It is worth to mention that, Saudi Stem Cell Donor Registry, one of the medical research body for health affairs in the Ministry of National Guard, which aims to provide a specialized scientific environment supporting clinical research, started recording donors of stem cells in 2011. It setting up the first national bone marrow donor registry in the Kingdom, in order to provide relevant data for patients with intractable diseases in order to facilitate them with stem cell therapy.
