Under the patronage and in the presence of H.E. Prof. Ahmed S. Alaameri, President of Imam Mohammad Ibn Saud Islamic University, the University—represented by the Organizational Capital Development Project—held today, Wednesday, December 10, 2025, a workshop titled “From Crisis to Institutional Excellence: How Governance, Risk, and Compliance Lead to Better Decision-Making?" with the participation of several university leaders.
The workshop aimed to enhance institutional awareness of the importance of governance, risk, and compliance in higher education, discuss the current landscape and associated challenges, and clarify leadership roles and responsibilities in supporting institutional transformation toward an integrated GRC framework.
The program began with a keynote address delivered by Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Shehri, Director of the Organizational Capital Development Project, who emphasized the importance of developing governance and risk management systems to support the strategic goals of educational institutions. The workshop also included an introductory session outlining the program's themes and objectives.
Five main themes were presented, including the evolution of governance, risk, and compliance concepts; case studies that shaped modern understanding of these fields; aligning risk appetite with institutional strategy; and tools that enhance the quality of decision-making for leaders and governing bodies.
The workshop also reviewed a success-factor model for governance, risk, and compliance programs as one of the modern frameworks for improving institutional performance and achieving integration between strategy and risk management.
Additional discussions addressed institutional governance concepts, risk management, regulatory compliance, and the importance of strengthening interaction among leaders to ensure unified strategic direction and shared future outlooks.
Participants were also introduced to the proposed roadmap and operating model developed by the Organizational Capital Development Project, in addition to reviewing key challenges identified during the assessment phase.
The workshop concluded with remarks by H.E. Prof. Ahmed S. Alaameri, President of the University, who praised the outcomes of the workshop and emphasized the importance of continuing such qualitative programs to support institutional development and transformation.
This workshop comes as part of IMSIU's ongoing efforts to develop its governance, risk, and compliance model in a manner that enhances institutional efficiency and supports national transformation goals.
It further aims to equip university leaders, councils, and committees with a deep understanding of modern GRC concepts and how to utilize analytical tools and practical exercises to elevate decision-making quality and strengthen institutional governance.
The event witnessed active engagement from participants, whose questions and interventions contributed significantly to enriching the workshop and improving the quality of ongoing initiatives and projects within the University.
