IMSIU, represented by the Intellectual Awareness Unit, organized on Monday, 2/2/2026, an academic lecture titled “Lessons from History: The Consequences of Strife and Revolutions." The lecture was delivered by Prof. Fahd S. Al-Fuhaidi, a faculty member at the College of Fundamentals of Religion, in the Grand Hall of the College of Social Sciences building, with the attendance of a number of university staff, students, and those interested in intellectual and historical affairs.
Prof. Al-Fuhaidi reviewed religious evidence from the Holy Qur'an and the authentic Sunnah clarifying the ruling on revolutions and rebellion against Muslim rulers, emphasizing what the texts indicate regarding the obligation of obedience in what does not involve disobedience to Allah, the prohibition of rebellion, and the duty of patience and fulfilling rights, as this preserves the interests of the nation and maintains unity.
He also discussed, throughout history, the negative consequences left by strife and revolutions on societies, beginning with the rebellion of the Khawarij against the Commander of the Faithful Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him), passing through periods of unrest in some Islamic eras such as the Fitnah of Ibn al-Ash'ath, the movement of Yazid ibn al-Muhallab, and the events of Abu Muslim al-Khurasani, and culminating in contemporary terrorist organizations and the severe damage and major humanitarian tragedies resulting from them.
He further addressed the firm stances of scholars throughout the ages regarding strife, reviewing the approach of the Companions, the Followers and their successors, then the four Imams and those after them, in affirming the methodology of obedience and realizing the objectives of Sharia in preserving religion, life, and society.
Prof. Al-Fuhaidi stressed the danger of deviant groups and covert organizations that adopt methods of inciting strife, warning against their tactics of spreading doubts and exploiting influential slogans and emphasizing the importance of intellectual awareness and referring to firmly grounded scholars.
This lecture comes within the framework of the university's commitment to enhancing intellectual awareness and reinforcing moderation and balance, contributing to building a conscious society capable of confronting intellectual challenges, in line with its mission of spreading Islamic knowledge and serving the community.
